Rules and policies

Rules and policies are in place to make sure your child remains safe and well at school.

Visit the NSW Department of Education’s policy library for all current operational policies.

Our school uses the department's School Community Charter to ensure all of our communication is collaborative and respectful.

Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent and remain in school, employment or training until they turn 17.

Anti-bullying plan

Centaur's commitment

Executive staff are committed to establishing evidence-based approaches and strategies that promote a positive climate where bullying is less likely to occur.

Digital devices and online services

Procedure for student use at school

Our school follows a procedure which guides student use of digital devices and online services at school. We acknowledges the educational value of digital devices and online services in supporting and enhancing educational outcomes and student wellbeing.

We also recognise they may cause harm if used inappropriately and that we need to support our students to use them in safe, responsible, and respectful ways.

School frameworks (school rules)

As well as following the department’s operational policies, we have developed frameworks for our students in line with our school’s values and commitments.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Centaur has implemented the Positive Behaviour for Learning model.

Our core values in PB4L are:

  • We are respectful
  • We are responsible
  • We are ready

Please also view the Behaviour code, as published by NSW Department of Education:

Behaviour management

At Centaur we strive to have proactive practices in place to reduce inappropriate behaviour. These practices reduce the need to act in a punitive manner and instead allow our students to reflect on the choices that they make while at school.

To ensure consistency in our behaviour management system we follow a behaviour management flowchart that was collaboratively created by staff, students and the community (through our P&C).

We are always conscious of the systems we have in place and would love any feedback on these through our P&C meetings.
